Designed specifically for toddlers and young children, this comprehensive experience turns what can often be a stressful hair day into a relaxing, tear-free, and fun adventure.
Part 1: The Gentle Wash & Prep
- Suds up & Keep out – We begin at the shampoo bowl by using a mild, tear-free formula to suds up a rich, foamy lather softly through their hair. To protect sensitive eyes and faces from stray soap or splashes, we have your child hold a soft washcloth over their forehead to keep out the water.
- Wash out & Work through – We ask your little one to tilt their head back so we can thoroughly wash out and rinse away all bubbles from the scalp and neck. Next, we distribute a nourishing leave-in cream through each section, working it carefully from the roots to the tips.
- Detangle out & Pat down – Starting carefully at the ends to prevent any painful tugging, we use a wide-tooth comb to smoothly detangle out every knot. We then pat down their curls with a soft microfiber towel to prevent frizz rather than rubbing the hair vigorously.
- Seal in – To lock in essential hydration after washing, we apply a small amount of moisturizing coconut oil or natural hair butter to seal in the moisture before styling begins.
Part 2: The Patient Braiding Session
- Sit still & Distract from – Because it is tough for toddlers to sit still for long periods, we focus heavily on positive entertainment. We gladly use tablets, streaming movies, or favorite snacks to distract from the combing and parting process.
- Tender out & Tie back – Our expert braiders always tender out their technique, intentionally easing up on the tension around delicate hairlines to protect your child's sensitive scalp. As we work, finished sections are securely tied back out of the way so they do not get tangled with unbraided hair.
- Adorn with – To celebrate a successful appointment, we finish the style by letting your child customize their look! They can choose to adorn the ends of their brand-new cornrows or box braids with colorful beads, bands, or clips.
